best in fest

Last night I saw two of the winners from the film fest. It's this fabulous little thing they do for the locals the day after the festival ends. They show the winners, for free, without the hype, the crowds, and waiting lists. Thankfully, I only had to drive to the Sundance screening room, not all the way to Park City. We saw the documentary Hear and Now, and the dramatic film Grace is Gone. Both films were very good (this is not always the case-even among the winners.) Thank you Wendy for the ticket and your company, it was fun hanging out and watching independent film.

weekend fun

We took the kids skiing on Saturday, it was rather chilly. But properly dressed, and with hand warmers in gloves- they had a good time. We only realized the next day that Quinn and Crew had strep throat. Oops. Anyway, they are on the mend now and the outdoor party continues. They love to sled, build igloos, make forts. The other day it was probably around 20 degrees and they were out all day. They came home for lunch, insisted on packing a "picnic" and left again. They were not happy when I finally made them come in...after dark. And that folks- is what being a kid is all about.

project idea

I have this idea for some new Valentines Day decor. I have these little felt heart magnets that Molly gave me a few years ago that I love the look of. Sequins and felt, what better combo? Then, I have all of these fun new books I have recently received for Christmas/birthday presents that have really great felt project ideas. So, I'm thinking up something felt and fun to brighten things up this snowy, cold time of year. If anyone out there has more felt ideas, feel free to share.

a scrumptious birthday cake

Thank you ladies for all of my wonderful presents, you all are fabulous. I would photograph them all and post their pics but they are already displayed, or in use around my house. Plus, I need to hurry and clean my bathrooms, no time for blogging fun today :)

in the front window...

We have these neighbors that are wacky, fun and a little crazy. This original piece of art is displayed in their front window. Let them be an example to us all, don't be afraid to express yourself. Because I, for one, really appreciate this show of originality.

star belly sneech and friends

These are ornaments I made for the Christmas Fever show. I didn't take any pictures, I guess I just figures they are just tiny little guys- I don't need pictures of all of them. Well, now I wish I had the shots of all 40 or so I made. So, thank you Hailey for sending me these pics, I really appreciate it.

aprons

I made these aprons the other day for a few special orders. I got some helpful inspiration from this really great site I found a few months back. It is called laylagrace There is lots of cool stuff, not just aprons, found at their website.

one hot birthday date

Steve O took me out for my birthday last night, a couple of days early, and we had a wonderful time. Let me share with pictures and a few words. After leaving the dreamlets with the best ever babysitter Erica, we busted out to SLC. We went to One World Cafe check it out here one world everybody eats It was delicioso, fresh and healthy. The sweet potato quiche was delectable. They had groovy aprons for sale, I love the fabric in the one pictured.
Then, we went to the Live taping of Radio West with Diane Rehm at the Rose Wagner Theater, you can listen to it here on kuer It was very good, but then again Diane Rehm and Doug Febrezio are always good. After that, we rushed on over to paradise bakery in Sugarhouse, to get the extremely delicious sugar cookie. You really can't go wrong with any of their cookies. I also recommend the snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, ginger molasses... mmm mmm good. We rushed and barely made it before they closed at 9. But, it's not always bad to be the last customer served at a bakery, you might get a little something extra:)
So, a big thank you to my fella for the fabulous evening out, you are the best and I love you.

I love winter

I must say- I love winter. I don't get bored, restless or depressed.
Here are my favorite things about winter:
*fresh snow, lots of it
*skiing and snowboarding
*warming up by the woodstove or fire
*hot chocolate-all flavors
*watching movies
*catching up on unfinished daily chores
*snuggling up to a book
*not having any yard work to do
*my birthday
I had to go to work yesterday, up at Sundance, there weren't very many lessons- so I got to free ski. I was all bundled up, prepared for the below freezing weather, so I decided to take a few runs. I went up to the back mountain, so bundled up no one knew who I was... this was a bonus. There were just a few others on the mountain, it was a Sunday morning and probably -10 F. I fell in love with winter all over again.
When I was a child living in New Hampshire, we used to have "snow days" all of the time. We would cheer at the prospect of no school and a day of outdoor fun ahead. I would bundle myself up and go out to play, sometimes with my brothers and sisters, but most of the time I would wander off by myself and explore the deep forest behind our house. I would trudge around for what felt like hours-it was probably 10 minutes-and marvel at the beauty of a fresh untouched snowfall and winter, in all it's glory, all around me. Yesterday, I felt like a kid again, all by myself enjoying the winter wonderland, skiing thru the trees, watching the moisture in the air crystalize and sparkle, carving huge turns as fast as I could down the mountain. It was so cold every tree branch was crusted with crystals of ice, the snow crunched and crackled under my skis, the light and fluffy crud that was so fun to make turns in. I loved every minute of it.

birthday skirt

I just made this skirt for a birthday present. I think it turned out very cute, you really can't go wrong with the goldfish-in-bags fabric.

a couple of purses

here are a few purses I made a few years ago, they're pretty darn cute. I hope that they are still out there in the world- holding ladies stuff and making other gals wish they had one :)

favorite book

This book is random, crazy, and hilarious. So far, I've just thumbed through it, but I came across this passage the other night. It is from a section entitled, "children's games" It's a game called Play Grown-Up; and it goes like this: "Have children simulate spousal abuse by arguing and, as this escalates, slapping each other. Use Tic Tacs to spit out of your mouth as if they were teeth."
The other day Steve O and I were pretend fist fighting while the kids were eating breakfast. Note: this only works because ocassionally "discuss" matters, but we never fight or beat each other up. We were doing all of the fake hitting tricks we know and being silly. The kids thought it was the funniest game they had ever seen...we'll have to add Tic Tacs next time.

dingle balls

dingle balls will jazz up just about anything you attach them too.
hey dolly, why do you have so much lipstick on?

another tiny quilt

I love this tiny quilt. It is only about 5 in. by 25 in. long. Just perfect for hanging in that tight spot, horizontally, vertically, or with a few other colorful items.

groovy book

My lovely spouse got me this book for Christmas, among other cool things-like... a dress form! yee ha! I can't believe I have lived without one all of these years. Anyway, back to the book- It has great project ideas, like a scrap wrap scarf that I can't wait to try. Thanks Steve O ranchexit and Denyse dsquilts

sorry Denyse Schmidt

Yes, I will admit it, this is a rip-off of Denyse Schmidt's quilts, which I love. I couldn't afford one of her quilts, and when you love to sew...why not just make it yourself?

05 January 2007

We heard the line, "aprons don't hold us back, they take us back", quoted on the CBS show 'Sunday Morning', I liked it so much, I adopted it for my display at the Artists with Christmas Fever show.

Bunny

Do you like the fancy ballerina bunny?

tiny quilt

This tiny quilt measures about 6 in. wide and 25 in. long. It was very fun to make with all the random scraps I have laying around. Big quilts take forever, but these tiny ones are done in an afternoon.

enzo ornament

This is Enzo our beloved, handsome, naughty Siberian Husky who went to doggie heaven 2 summers ago, he was 10. This is a ornament I made years ago for our good friend Brent because he and Enzo had birthdays one day apart. Every year I would tease him about sharing his birthday with our dog by making something for him featuring Enzo. He has a really cool stained glass window of Enzo too.

Happy New Year

Here is a apron I make for a friend for Christmas. I love this fabric- you may have noticed I also have it in blue. This apron will help you look fabulous while working on the New Years resolution: cook more delicious food, more often.
